May 14, 2009 - Getting Closer!!!

We are about 2 weeks from completion!! Despite our Brick layer being in jail and our heat/air guy quitting to morn his divorce, we are almost there. Since our last blog, they have finished painting the house and most of the trim; finished the cabinets, countertops, and installed appliances; finished plumbing; hung the lights; and poured our driveway, sidewalks, and porch. Today they finished the hardwood floors. There are still a few things like closet shelving, door hardware, carpet and a few details to take care of. It looks like we are going to survive the house building process! We hope to move in June 6th.

This week has been trim, tile, and cabinet week.

3/8/09 UPDATE

This week has been a busy week. All of the hardwood and most of the tile was laid. The stairs, railing, and banister was constucted. Finally, the exterior brick was finished.

Update 2/15/09

The exterior is almost finished. This week the siding was put on and painted.

The garage doors were installed.

Inside the sheetrock has been hung and mudded. This is a view from the upstairs balcony down into the great room.

The siding on the rear has to be painted. Rear garage door was installed and the columns on the deck are half bricked.

February 4, 2009

As you can see the sheetrock has been hung. They are in the process of mudding and sanding. Hopefully, the sheetrock will be completely finished by the end of next week. The next stage will be laying the hardwood and tile. The cabinets should be ready by the time the flooring is finished.

January 11, 2009

Almost finished with the brick! Electrical, plumbing, and heat/air are now complete. They are also finished with insulation and will begin sheetrocking this week.

12/20-Update

A lot has happened on the inside of the house since the last post. All of the plumbing and electrical work is complete. The heating and air ducts are also installed. Last week they delivered the staircase and almost took out the front door in the process. Outside, the brickwork is about 70% complete and we have added our front door. The next phase will be the insulation followed by the sheetrocking which we hope to start after Christmas.

Beating The Cold

The past 10 days we have been dealing with the cold weather. The brick layers have worked when weather has permitted. The right side of the house is now fully bricked and they are starting on the back. Tuesday, the electricians began the rough wiring and the plumber is suppose to start the rough plumbing any day.

November 25, 2008

Since the last post we have almost finished the interior framing, set the windows and most of the doors, and began bricking.

We have a roof!

Despite bad weather, we were able to get a lot accomplished this week. The roof was sheeted and then prepared for shingles. The roof over the front porch was built, the back deck was framed, and much of the remaining interior was framed. The last picture is the great room fireplace.
